Same-Day Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns

Traditional crowns require two visits to the dentist’s office. On your first visit, your dentist will prepare the tooth for the crown by removing some of the enamel layers. X-rays will be taken of the tooth to check its function and need for restoration. The dentist will also make impressions of the tooth to send to a laboratory to fabricate the crown. A temporary crown will be placed on your tooth while the permanent one is manufactured. The second visit will be scheduled around two to three weeks later when the permanent crown is ready. At the second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed and the permanent one placed.
